How do you tell a house without turning the city into scenery?

01 — Line

First, the building is read.

Three Gründerzeit houses, one street front. The story does not open with a picture but with the facade's own lines: axes, floors, windows.

  • 3 houses
  • 5 floors
  • 35 flats

02 — Light

Light only in the windows being told.

Behind the facade, life goes on.

The camera closes in on a lit window and goes inside.

03 — City

The city is data, not scenery.

From the pavement to the roofs, from the roofs to the neighbourhood. The map was not drawn; it was built from Berlin's own open data. Walking times are computed on the street network.

5 · 10 · 15 minutes on foot

Data: Berlin LoD2 building model, TrueDOP aerial image, Baumbestand tree register (dl-de/zero-2.0) and the OpenStreetMap path network

04 — Choice

Two people, two ways.

The brief described two very different visitors: one who wants to invest, one who wants to live here. One identity, separate flows.

    First client review

Opening and facade choice, on the first version.

  2. 11.10

    A second direction, explored

A more graphic language out of a grey city model. Left on purpose; some of its ideas went into the final version.

  3. 14.10

    The pace of versions

Dozens of small versions in a single day: each one a detail, each one reversible.

Principles

  • One renderer, one scene, one model.

Each chapter only reports its state; camera, light and material follow from it.

  • Forwards and backwards, the same image.

Nothing plays on a timer; every frame is a function of the scroll.

By letting the city speak with its own data.
